About the farm:
Migoti Coffee is a specialty coffee producer based in the lush, mountainous region of Mutambu Commune in Bujumbura Province, Burundi. Founded in 2015 by engineers Pontien Ntunzwenimana and Dan Brose, the company is dedicated to uplifting local smallholder farmers by connecting them with international roasters through high-quality coffee and a transparent, ethical supply chain.
At Migoti’s washing stations, careful processing is key to achieving outstanding cup quality. One of the methods used is the honey process, where harvested coffee cherries are first hand-sorted to remove underripe, overripe, or defective fruit. The cherries are then pulped, but unlike fully washed processing, the mucilage (a sticky layer of fruit) is left on the beans. The coffee is then spread on raised drying beds for 18 to 22 days, turned frequently and inspected by hand to ensure consistency and remove any remaining defects. .
This meticulous process, combined with the dedication of Migoti’s team and partnering farmers, results in exceptional Burundian coffee with rich, complex flavours that reflect the region’s unique terroir.
This delicious coffee has lots of sticky sweetness which reminds us of strawberry sweets and jam.
