About the farm:

Kuria Extra Special is a naturally processed lot that has been anaerobically fermented with Ava. This blend of Ruiri 11, Batian, SL28 and SL34 was cultivated in Migori County, Kenya, between 1400 - 1600 m.a.s.l, and processed by Misadhi Coffee in the ward of Rongo, Migori County.

During routine cleaning of Rongo washing station’s 200L barrels, Flo, the manager, noticed a sweet-smelling white substance resembling ripe bananas. Sidney of Lot 20 had it analysed, revealing it was Aspergillus Oryzae, used in Japanese cuisine. Coffee from this barrel had heightened sweetness and higher cup scores. The fungus now known as AVA is now cultivated for all ‘extra special’ lots.

This is a really vibrant coffee with lots going on in the cup, a really complex Kenyan which has been enhanced by the processing method used.
