Nyagashiha
Tasting Notes: Stewed fruit, Fig, Vanilla
Process: Natural
Varietal: Bourbon
Altitude: 1530 MASL
Origin: Burundi
About the farm:
Situated 1530 metres above sea level, the Nyagashiha washing station provides a pivotal hub for coffee processing.
Benefitting from an average annual rainfall of 1350mm and average temperatures of 18C, optimal conditions for coffee growth are ensured.
This coffee is part of the Akawa project, a project set up to build a stable and fair supply chain in Burundi.
The project finances the UTZ certification of the washing stations, 11 so far, so that the premiums on all coffee sold from the washing stations can be used to train farmers in good management practices.
A flat price is paid to the mill prior to harvest, meaning that the farmers receive all of the money for their cherry upfront and without negotiation, something which is not common in Burundi at all.
This is such an easy drinker with loads of stewed berries and figs up front and a creamy vanilla like finish.
Good acidity, body and finish all rounded out in this sweet cup from Burundi.
